General Notes (Husband)
Harold had an excellent self-education after only two year of grammar school. At age nine he worked in the mill and was superintendent of spinning department for many years. He pitched and played third base for the Iva mill baseball team, was considered very good. Managed and coached baseball and softball for years in Anderson at the(Gossett Mill) Harold's father was a carpenter, cabinet maker, who went to NC. Harold was living with Narcissa Ashley (g-mother) and left home at an early age, taking his brother Paul with him. He got Paul in the military (under age) where he retired as an officer and then rejoined as a Sargeant and retired as an officer again. Paul died at age 90 in Anderson and buried with full military honors.
General Notes (Wife)
Alice received many Bowling Awards and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame 1989. She won awards in Softball and was given awards for her talent as an Artist. She painted many pictures and wrote and composed beautiful music. Alice taught Piano and was a Choir Director. She learned to cook and bake when parents kept boarders, and during 1940's was baking up to 35 "Fruit Cakes" for people on Christmas.
