General Notes for Child Andrew "Andy" W. SUTHERLAND

Andrew Sutherland, Pvt A. Sutherland War 0f 1812 age 22 or 23 in Miller Company
*******************

Andrew, age 65 and Margaret age 55, listed 1860 census, Lowndesville, Abbeville County, SC, both born in South Carolina. Andy's occupation was "Miller'.
Andrew should have been commemorated for his extreme sacrifice to the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. He must have been very proud to have at least four sons to volunteer September 1st to 5th. They joined the 14th Regiment at Lowndesville SC, under Captain H. H. Harper, Commander. The Regiment reported for "Muster" at Camp Butler on Sept 10, 1861. Knowing the unity of the Sutherland families (which i am proud of), we can feel his pain and burden as he deals with the death notices, and know how despondent he must have been. Andy would have loved to know that Francis, under-going treatment, left the hospital and sacrificed his life to aid his brothers and comrads. Thomas never told anyone that he had a medical discharge, but returned to his unit and fought another year before dying. That's the type of valor any family can be proud of.
