General Notes (Wife)

Willie was raised by (aunt) Carrie Sutherland Gibson, in Iva, SC, after her mother died in 1904. -- She started working in the textile mill at age 8. She worked all her life-giving her children the best she could. She taught them to be independent and self-sustaining. -- She also helped raise some of her grandchildren.
Her life had many heartaches, and hardships, but also happiness. Her best gift was her love and laughter. She was called "The Widow" by many of her friends.
Willie and Ernest lived in Iva, in 1920 census.


General Notes for Child Miriam Josephine "Sissy" VANADORE

Sissy was born in Ware Shoals, SC and graduated there in 1959. Married Oct 1958. Left for Germany in 1960 for 3 years. Moved to Texas in 1963, to NC in 1966, and to Columbia, SC in 1968. She Moved to Williamston, SC, near her family in Oct 1972. Sissy was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church and a member of the Alter Guild. She was retired, after 20 years, as Director at the USC Daycare Center in
Columbia, SC. She continued to work with children at the Action Learning Center,
Piedmont, SC. She loved working with children and also being with her family.
She was buried in the C M Gaffney Memorial Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Thomas McAfee Funeral Home directed her burial.

Gene moved to Greenville in June 1958, graduated Greenville High School 1963.
Started in garment industry May 1966 and still in industry.
