General Notes (Husband)

CSA - Pvt Francis .M. Sutherland, age 24, Company I, joined 14th Infantry Reg. of SC Volunteers at Lowdnesville, SC, Capt. H.H. Harper, Commander. They mustered at Camp Butler Sep 10, 1861. Pvt Francis Sutherland was given a "Leave of Absence", 1st to 10th October, 1861 by Captain H. H. Harper. Reason was to visit his parents and recruit his niece ( Etha ?) to check the farm.
Francis was confined to the hospital for treatment, but went missing on Nov 19, 1862.
They presumed him dead and reported "Died" on Nov 19, 1862..He must have gone back to his Unit, as he died, during the fighting, Nov 29, 1862 at Jordan's Spring, Jefferson City, Jefferson Co, Va. The report of death, Dec 1, 1861, "Presumed drowned - no Identification".
Another report from the hospital reported "left the hospital in Delirium caused by Disease."
(Note: This man lay in that hospital listening to guns and mortar killing his brothers and comrades, so he went to help, without his ID. He lasted 10 days, so he could not have been much delirious) His widow was Martha A A Sutherland, Lowndesville, SC.
