James M. Hill, 69, of Dana passed away Saturday, March 24, 2001, in Pardee Hospital.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, the son of the late C. Frank Hill and Lillie Lee Osteen Hill. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Hill and Curtis Hill; and a sister, Gladys Ballard. He retired from Duke Power in 1991 after 38 years of service. He was a member and past deacon of Refuge Baptist Church and a member of Kedron Masonic Lodge 387 and American Legion Post 77.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Betty Bishop Hill; a daughter, Gilda Maybin and husband, James L. Maybin, of Green River; three brothers, Clarence Hill and Lawrence Hill of Hendersonville and R.V. Hill of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Faye Parris of Flat Rock, Margaret Coleman of Hendersonville and Jean Garren of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jessica Cox and husband, Jeremy Cox, and Justin Maybin; a great-granddaughter, Mikaela Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Refuge Baptist Church. The Revs. Mike Stewart and Kenneth Fugate will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Jackson Funeral Service, and at other times will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Refuge Baptist Church Bus Fund or the Building Fund at P.O. Box 36, Dana, N.C. 28724.
