[Eugenia Lindsey Osteen FTW]
In 1940, Charles "Curt" Curtis Lance, joined the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of seventeen. He was a flight engineer on a cargo plane during World War II. He was on missions in China, Burma, India, and Japanese theater of operations. He was awarded the distinguished flying cross with two clusters, the purple heart, good conduct medal with four clasp, a World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal with one clasp, American, European, African, Middle Eastern, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medals.
When the war ended, Curt remained in the Air Force and flew transport planes all over the World. It was shortly after the war ended that Curt married Eloise Brown.
Curt and Lillie became the parents of seven children; Charles Gary, Linda Kay, Judy Elaine, Marsha Lynn, Debra Jean Sonia Jo, and Betty Anne.
In 1962, Curt retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service, and settled in Summerville, South Carolina. There he fulfilled a life long dream, to build elegant home. He was employed by Erwin Company as a construction super intendant.
While building the King's Grant Golf Course, he was killed in a freak accident. Curt drove home one day for lunch and decided he would walk back to the job site. On his way back he came across a group of construction workers that were trying to get a bulldozer loose from a tree. Curt offered to assist them, and he climbed onto the dozer to try to break it loose from the tree. The tree came loose and hit Curt in the chest and killed him instantly.
