Marie B. Henderson, 91
Marie Barnette Henderson, 91, of Hendersonville died on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at her home.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, a daughter of the late David Stradley Barnette and Julia Garren Barnette, and wife of Vernon E. Henderson Sr., who died in 1941. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, David Barnette, James Barnette and Earl Barnette; and two sisters, Martha Lobraico and Eugenia Bridgeman. She was a member of the first graduating class of Hendersonville High School in 1927 and the following year taught six grades in a one-room schoolhouse. She was employed at Belk's for 13 years and retired from Cranston Printworks in 1974. She was a longtime, active member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church, participating in the Thelma Tart Sunday School Class as well as the Live Embers.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon E. Henderson and his wife, Jean, of Lenoir and Richard E. Henderson of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara H. Simpson, and her husband, J.V., of Hendersonville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Irene Tehaan of McLean, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hendersonville First Baptist Church. The Rev. Steve Scoggins will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors.
