Taken from the Hendersonville Times News paper:

Maze Cleveland Beddingfield, 87, of Tuxedo died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Pardee Memorial Hospital after a long period of declining health.

The native and lifelong resident of Henderson County was a son of the late Lemuel Irving Beddingfield and Leila Capps Beddingfield. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 23rd Armored Engineers from D-Day through the entire European war. He came home to become a prominent builder and craftsman in the county. Perhaps the most pleasurable of his many jobs and projects was the complete restoration of the St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church in Flat Rock. He was a lifetime member and past president of the Flat Rock Lion's Club and was a member of Tuxedo First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Octavia Freeman Beddingfield; a son, Ronald Beddingfield, and his wife, Joyce, of Hendersonville; a daughter, Anita Beddingfield Reid, and her husband, Harold, of Hendersonville; six grandchildren, Carmen Beddingfield Armour and her husband, Gabe, Zachary J. Beddingfield and K.E. Forte Jr., all of Hendersonville, Ashley B. Forte of Greenville, S.C., and Ashley and Matthew Reid, both of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; four brothers, Max, A.J., Ralph and Otho Beddingfield, all of Tuxedo; and three sisters, Maude Harris and Ruth McCarson, both of Tuxedo, and Eula DeSoto of Ball, La.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Shepherd Memorial Park with the Rev. H. Alexander Viola officiating. The family will receive friends at the home on Freeman Creek Road. The body will lie in repose from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors. Memorials may be made to North Carolina Lion's Foundation Inc. P.O. Box 39, Sherrills Ford, N.C. 28673.
