General:

Ruth died of lung and breast cancer; the disease started in breast, although she was a heavy smoker.
She was convicted of murder of second husband, Jim Drake, who was said to be abusive to her and also a heavy drinker. In the midst of such a fight she shot him and served time in prison in Raleigh.
Ruth had no children by either husband. She was always a support to her mother and father, visiting them and giving help as they needed. To her niece, Laura, she will be remembered for her kindness and the love she showed her.
