Notes
General:
Notes: Janet Butler-Stephens (Mar 21, 1946-) granddaughter.

Janie Orr Butler was my father's (William Leon Butler) mother.
I was born in the spring of 1946, after she died in 1945.

Janie Orr Butler went to live with my parents in Wilmington, NC during World War II. They lived
in a one bedroom apartment all three of them till they could be assigned a two bedroom. My father worked as a welder in the shipyard and my mother worked as head bookkeeper at Camp David.
There was little heat for the apartment and everything was rationed at that time. I understand that Jamie Orr Butler's health was fragile after her husband died in 1942. She died of Heart Failure.

Janie Orr Butler was a dietitian at the dairy on the Biltmore Estate Dairy when my father was
growing up. They actually lived on the estate in a home provided for them.

I have a burgundy vase that was given to Janie Orr Butler at a Christmas party given by the Vanderbilt for their employees.
I have photos of Janie Orr Butler and a hall table that was in her home.
