Marriage Notes (Joseph Freeman LANCE)
[Eugenia Lindsey Osteen FTW]
Emma moved with her parents to a new home in the Catheys Creek Community when she was 6 years old.
In 1916, during a torrential rain storm, one of Caroline's (Emma's mother) family members rode to their home and alerted them of the danger of a landslide. Caroline and Fate quickly removed their family, just in time to miss a great land slide that came into the back of their home. This was the same storm that destroyed the Lake Toxaway Dam.
Carolina and Fate bought the Whitaker home on the left bank of Cathey's Creek, and operated a store there. Emma attended the subacriptive school in a log building next door to Cathy's Creek Baptist Church for her fire.
