Harry grew up in the Cathey's Creek community and attended the local schools, then joined the Navy in 1943. Harry and Jessie were married in 1944 when he was on leave from service.
For many years Harry operated Blake Riding Stables in the Cathey's Creek Community. He was killed on August 17, 1967, at the age of 44. Harry was coming home on his tractor after working in the fields that day, and a neighbor signaled him to stop. When he stopped, the neighbor just shot him without any cause or warning. Bobbie said, "everyone thought the world of Harry and that this neighbor ended the life of a fine man for no apparent reason.
