Notes
Marriage Notes (Cora Sardinia "Aunt Dean" WARD)
[Eugenia Lindsey Osteen.FTW]

Robert Osteen was my mother's uncle. Although he died many years before I was born, I can remember Cora "Aunt Dean" very well. I spent quite a bit of time with her when I was a child, during the time my mother worked helping David "Hez" harvest his crops in the summer. The house that Uncle Bob, as my mom referred to him, and Aunt Dean built stood in the middle of the road as the Mt. Olive road runs now. I can remember sitting of the porch in the swing, shadowed by huge hemlocks and talking with Aunt Dean. I would go to the spring below their house and take water to the folks working in the fields. She was a very slender lady who could set a record picking berries of any kind. I remember seeing her as she would pass by our house as she walked to the village to sell berries. She was noted for her "berrie picking". She was a person who taught you how to work and made you realize that it was expected for every person to work. I think of her fondly and with pleasant memories. I consider it a treasure to have these memories.
