Thelma and Gene lived in the Mount Olive area of Green River all their life. They lived in the same house from about 1930 until they died. The house was completely remodeled in 1969.
Gene was a Carpenter for many years. He built several houses for friends and relatives after he retired. His speciality was finish carpentry. He also loved to restore 1930 Model A Ford cars. He restored 4 and was working on one at the time he had a stroke in 1989.
Thelma was a homemaker and mother for many years as the children spanned over a period on 16 years.
At other times she worked in the cotton mill, school cafeteria, and local cafe. She was a wonderful cook. She loved working in the yard with flowers and farm animals.
Both Gene and Thelma suffered heart problems and strokes. She had angina pectoris which was the cause of her death but had suffered a stoke four and a half years before. When she had the stroke December 29, 1990, it destroyed her short term memory. Gene had suffered a stroke which left him paralyzed on his right side in March 1989. They were cared for at home until their death.[Eugenia Lindsey.FTW]
