General:
The U. S. Veteran's disability pension application, filled out by Drew in 1901, lists his physical characteristics as being; dark hair, blue eyes, with a light complexion. He lists his height as 5 ft. 8 in. and his weight as 145 lb. The U. S. Army enlistment forms, dated 1864, state his height as 5 ft. 6 in. and his eyes as hazel.

Drew and his brother, Luther Calvin, served in the U. S. Army, Co. E, 3rd Reg't N. C. Mounted Inf., during the Civil War. They enlisted for a term of three years. Date of enlistment was November 6, 1864, at Knoxville, TN. He was 18 years old at that time. His discharge papers were dated August, 8. 1865.

Medical:
A veteran's disability pension was applied for November 26, 1901 due to his right hand being perished and drawed.
Marriage Notes (Sarah A. "Sallie" STAMEY)
Sallie Stamey and D. W. Patterson were married by Rev. James Howard, at his home in Clifton, SC. It is stated in the NC Widow's Pension application that, at the time of this ceremony, a marriage license was not issued by the state of South Carolina. Raleigh L. Patterson has said that he could remember being present, with his siblings, at the wedding of their parents. The youngest son Herman was just an infant when the marriage occured.
