Obituary from the Western North Carolina Tribune:
Hampton Sentell, son of W. H. (Rook) and Nancy Sentell, died at his home on Green river, January 8th after a lingering illness of several months.
He was well known in the community, and to the readers of The Times as the "Owl" correspondent, and we all loved to read his breezy, newsy letters, but his hands are now folded across his breast, cold in death; and what is written is written. Would you ask what is written? "A good kind, true friend, a loving, dutiful son, whose great object seemed to be to comfort and sustain his afflicted and bereaved mother in her trouble." And he has left on record also a Christian life, having joined the church when quite young, in which he lived a faithful member, and we feel sure that his name was written in the Book of Life.
During his illiness he seemed to be burdened with a great desire for the salvation of his friends and acquaintances, hoping that they might see the importance of attending to this matter while young and in health, and as Solomon, the wise man, said, "Get wisdom, and with all thy getting, get understanding." We will all find, when we come to walk through the valley of death, that wisdom is the principal thing, that wisdom that cometh down from above.
May all his friends take warning lest that hour come on them unaware. Our brother has paid the debt that we all have to pay, for old Mother Earth will open her arms to receive her children. May we all be ready, as our brother was, when the summons came.
